Visualizing yourself at your goal weight – how you look, how you feel, how you feel about the way you look, the actions you take, how you treat your body – is a huge part of the weight loss process. We must tell our brains to believe in this new version of ourselves, to believe that we already are that version. If we start to lose weight and go past the “set point” that our brain believes that we’re at, we start to say, “No, that’s not really me… I’m actually lazy… I don’t plan my meals or choose healthy foods… I overeat… I’m an emotional eater…” and that brings us right back to where we were at the beginning. In order to get past that believed (and deeply ingrained) set point, we have to change our belief about who we really are. We have to believe we really are that person before we get there – our brain doesn’t know the difference – so visualization is a hugely important tool in the weight loss journey.
