Now, we all know that apples are good for us, right? Okay, so why do so many people opt instead for the low-fat, low-calorie, prettily packaged thing-majiggers, thinking that they’re doing something good for their bodies? It seems to be common sense, that one should pick something from nature over a substance that closely resembles food but is actually made in a factory owned by a bunch of people who don’t care about our health. Hm. Is it that we’re so overloaded with sugar and other baddies (such as those found in these 100-calorie snacks) that we can’t help but crave the very chemicals that are making us sick? That sounds about right to me. Of course, that pretty package has much to do with it as well, but we’ll leave that alone for today and focus instead on the bigger problem here.

So what’s the big idea? Why are we constantly reaching for the table salty, sugary, artificial messes that make up such an overwhelming portion of our food supply? We’re addicted, folks. And this addiction can stay with us our whole lives, if we choose to let it. Huh? Choose? Yes, it is a choice. Don’t let the Sugar People fool you… there is hope for all of us little sugar addicts (been there, the battle continues…). Check out my next blog post (coming Monday) to learn more about the evil Sugar and how it is majorly messing us up. See you then! 🙂

Oh, and by the way, are the low-fat 100-calorie pretzels good for us? Despite the fact that someone has put a lot of effort into trying to make us think so, they, in fact, are not. Sorry, pretty-package lovers. They start with wheat flour, add lots of table salt, and often pour in some chemicals and sugar for good measure. What?? Sugar in pretzels?? Mmhmm. And just a side note: low-fat and low-calorie are not actually good things; we need fats to function and should make our calories count, rather than count our calories. A better choice? Go for that apple.
