The number one thing people tell me when I suggest they try a smoothie for breakfast is: “Ha, yeah that’s not going to fill me up”.

And in reply to this all-too-common belief, I tell them that sure, SOME smoothies may not keep them full and satisfied, but if they put in the proper components, they will be satisfied and energized all morning long.

What are the proper components, you ask?

If you’ve been to the Lifewatchers class that Goodness Me! natural food market offers (I’m teaching these ones coming up in January; Saturday afternoons starting January 17th, and Wednesday evenings starting January 21st), you’ve already learned that these proper components include protein, fat, and fibre.

My friends, that statement does hold up in court.

Protein and fat help to keep our blood sugar level steady throughout the day, reducing energy crashes and helping to prevent cravings. Protein contributes to muscle strength and endurance, and is what our hormones and digestive enzymes are made of. Fat builds our brain, eyes, and nerves, and is a component of virtually every cell membrane in our body; proper cellular processes require a good amount of the right fats.

Fibre keeps our digestive system in check and ensures our BMs are doing what they should: removing toxins, wastes, and other substances our liver has filtered and sent to the digestive tract for removal.

For more on that, check out this post: Poo Poo Peedoo!

The smoothie I’m sharing with you today provides all of these components to make you feel satisfied, energized, and have healthy poops. Really, what more could you ask for?

Green Smoothie

1.5 cups water
Handful spinach (make it a generous one)
1 scoop vanilla protein powder
1 Tbsp coconut oil
1/2 cup frozen mangoes
2 large Medjool dates, chopped in half and pits removed

Combine all ingredients in your blender and blend away!

I’d LOVE to hear how this smoothie made you feel, as well as your favourite healthy smoothie additions. Comment below!
