Feet. Don’t you just love them? And legs, legs are great too. Why am I saying this? Well first off, I’m saying it less from a visual perspective and more from a physical perspective. (But hey, I can appreciate a good pair of legs, okay? :))
Back to the point. Think about it. How lucky are we that we have these things that carry us around, all day, everyday? I mean really!
What do you think feet and legs are for? Certainly not for pushing the pedals in a car. No, no, no. They were made for walkin’! And pushing the pedals on a bike! And… and dancing, of course! My point is, let’s not succumb to laziness or buy into that “I need to be there yesterday” way of thinking. Instead, let’s take our time and enjoy life a little more, and use those feet in the way that we’re supposed to. We’ll feel better, have more energy, burn more calories, and reduce those pesky fat cells. And let’s not forget about the environmental impact of all those cars on the road, and how much of a positive effect we can each have on the earth, simply by choosing to use our feet more.
What inspired me to write this blog post? Well, my boyfriend and I were in Montreal last weekend, and neither of us could believe how much walking we did. I know, I know… that’s what you do when you’re a tourist. But, we were also amazed at how many people who live there also use their feet. To work, to restaurants, to friends’ houses, to the grocery store. I get really inspired when I see others being healthy and treating their bodies right, so this, of course, inspired me. Feet are truly the cheapest, all around healthiest mode of transportation.
Now, I certainly know that a car can come in handy sometimes… okay, often. But that doesn’t mean that we should rely upon it as a means for transportation Every. Single. Time. No, siree. If you happen to be travelling somewhere that is a reasonable distance to walk, ride your bike, rollerblade, or skip to, I encourage you to do it! And yeah, you may get sweaty (I know I do), and a little dishevelled. But who cares?! You’re doing something that is amazing for your body and for our world. Bring a change of clothes (or at least a shirt), maybe some deodorant, and a hairbrush, and freshen up once you’ve reached your destination. Easy peasy pumpkin squeezy!
Just remember… avoid running on empty by keeping your gas tank full… with water and nutrient rich foods, of course! The best, most precious ‘gas’ there could ever be. 🙂
