Well, it’s still happening, and I’m feeling pretty darn good. BUT, and this is a big but (haha), I still seem to have these little things called Sweet Teeth. You’ve heard of them, yes? Perhaps you have some of your own? Or maybe a lot?
Look, while they definitely do diminish over time after giving up the white powder (that is, white sugar… keep your head in the game), they still like to rear their ugly heads from time to time.
Case in point: lately I’ve been craving exceedingly bad-for-you foods, like cupcakes, cake, and icing (I’ll take it straight up, please). Oh right, that’s all the same thing. Let’s throw in some ice cream too; that’s a definite occasional craving, especially in this warm-hot-sticky weather.
What do I do about these hard-to-avoid cravings, you ask? Well, besides trying to prevent them from happening in the first place (get ideas here), I’ve been busy in my kitchen whipping up yummy snacks and desserts that I can have. Remember, I’m still consuming honey, maple syrup, and coconut sugar, to name a few of the more natural sweeteners. I keep it to a minimum though, since they’re still sugar at the end of the day. But, WAY better for you than the white stuff because they contain some vitamins and minerals that your body needs to metabolize them.
Something I’ve been loving lately is Prana Maple Nuts (find them at a health food store). You may have heard me mention them (on more than one occasion) on my Facebook page, but it’s with good reason! You can eat them on their own or sprinkle them into a homemade trail mix, yogurt/kefir, oatmeal, quinoa, etc. to add some sweetness. Sweet!
I will continue to post yummy, healthy(er) desserts that will satisfy those Sweet Teeth without leading to crazy blood sugar swings, cravings, acne, and weight gain, among other nasties.
I welcome your ideas, tips, tricks, and recipes that help quiet YOUR Sweet Teeth! Share away. 🙂
